The film Bruckner performed the role of a young high-school student who is having an affair with David Strathairn. Roger Ebert, a film critic, said that Bruckner was able to perform the challenging role without hesitation. Bruckner received the Independent Spirit Award as "Best female role" due to her portrayal. Born and raised in a household of three siblings: one brother and two sisters. Hungarian was her mother tongue and she rehearsed it often to maintain her fluency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father and an Russian mother, who later divorced. Her paternal grandfather was German. In Hungary the parents of Bruckner initially met before moving to America in 1984 via the refugee settlement of Italy. She is the younger sister of two brothers, and also have two sisters.
